It's Australia (in the 1970s, judging from the outfits). So fewer filmsnob points, but probably more box office success. Instead, it's packed with macho violence, swearing and drag queens. Critical acclaim and award ceremonies would have followed. One group wants to escape their everyday lives, the other wants to find what‘s left.In many ways 'Cut Snake' is a wasted opportunity: it could have been a worthy social drama about how young men sent to prison cope with their prison history when they're out. Here both stories meet at the trailer park and the secrets of Sunset Edge are revealed in a paralyzing finale. In an attempt to reclaim his physical childhood home, he confronts psychological trauma. The protagonist 16yo Malachi is a social outcast– his father, a murderer, his grandfather, strict and isolating. Now lost the second narrative surfaces like a repressed evocative memory. Our teens are completely unaware that this park is where a lonesome boy is confronting a horrific past and soon they are lured into the woods. After skateboarding the park, the teens disperse and crash …alone. A lazy afternoon is spiked with Suicide Soda, a heady brew of cheap pop and energy packets. Hooked on modern technology, they text and Instagram amidst the creepy forgotten refuse. The first story is a nostalgic thrill ride of peculiar normalcy for four aimless, suburban teenagers. Two tales clash violently in this meditative portrayal of disaffected youth set in a graveyard of abandoned mobile homes known as Sunset Edge. As the world around them seems to mirror their own chaos and confusion, Ruth and Alex realize the same bond of love that has kept them together all these years will allow them to see their way through this crazy weekend as well. While Dorothy is having expensive treatment at the vet, Ruth convinces Alex to go apartment hunting in Manhattan, where they miraculously come across an ideal place they might actually be able to afford. Closer to home, Dorothy, the Carver’s beloved dog, is suddenly having trouble walking. On the eve of their open house, the Brooklyn Bridge is rumored to be under a terrorist attack, sending the media into a frenzy and people’s attitudes about living in New York. But they have let Ruth’s niece Lily (Cynthia Nixon), a real estate agent, list their property to see what the market might bear. The now-retired Ruth and Alex haven’t changed – they are still as much in love as ever. Maurice continues to have relationships with other women. There, Agnes falls in love with Maurice Agnelet (Guillaume Canet), a lawyer and Renee’s business advisor, who is ten years her senior. When her marriage falls apart, Agnes Le Roux (Adèle Haenel) moves back to the South of France from Africa to live with her mother, Renee (Catherine Deneuve), owner of the Palais de La Mediterranee casino in Nice.
